Gutter Brightening & Oxidation Removal in Delaware County
Removes the black tiger stripes and chalky oxidation from gutters, downspouts, trim and faded siding, which a house wash alone will not touch.

Gutter streaking is the single most common thing people believe a house wash will fix, and it does not. Those vertical black tiger stripes are not dirt sitting on the gutter. They are grime bonded into the oxidizing finish of the metal, and a soft wash runs straight past them.
What tiger stripes actually are
The stripes form where rainwater sheets over the front lip of the gutter carrying fine asphalt residue off the shingles and carbon out of the air, then dries. Over the years that grime bonds to the painted aluminum, and the paint itself breaks down into a chalky film that grabs even more. The result is stuck to the metal, not resting on it.
Why a house wash will not remove them
Soft-wash chemistry is designed for algae and mildew and has no effect on bonded oxidation, which is why a freshly washed house can still have filthy-looking gutters. Turning up the pressure does not help either, it just scars the paint. More on that in why gutters stay black after a house wash.
What actually removes them
A dedicated brightening product, applied to the gutter face, given time to break the bond, then agitated by hand and rinsed. It is slow work done from a ladder along the whole run, and it is the reason this is priced as its own service rather than thrown in with a house wash.
Oxidized siding: the same chalk on a bigger wall
Gutters are not the only painted surface on a house that oxidizes. Older aluminum siding, and some vinyl, fades and chalks the same way, until a blue house looks pale and a white one looks gray. We remove siding oxidation by hand, section by section, which is why there is a ladder in the Drexel Hill photo below. It was taken partway through the job: the upper story is still chalky and the lower story is back to a deep blue. The homeowner wrote afterwards that the siding “came very close to the original color.”
How to tell oxidation from dirt
Rub the surface with a fingertip. Dirt smears or comes off gray. Oxidation comes off as a fine chalk, white on white gutters and colored on colored siding, and the spot you rubbed looks brighter than the area around it. Streaks that run straight down from the gutter lip are the other giveaway. If you are not sure, text us a photo with your quote request and we will tell you which you have.
Why it pairs with a house wash
A clean house with striped gutters looks unfinished, and bright gutters on a green house look odd. Booking both on the same visit means the walls get a soft wash and the gutters, downspouts and any faded siding get brightened while everything is already set up, which costs less than two separate visits.
It is a finishing service, not a cure-all
Brightening restores the finish. It cannot rebuild aluminum that has oxidized all the way through, and on a very old gutter the result is a big improvement rather than a new gutter. We will look at yours and tell you which you have.
Is gutter brightening the same as gutter cleaning?
No, and they are often confused. Gutter cleaning empties the inside, the leaves and debris, so water can flow. Brightening treats the outside face so it stops looking streaked. This service is the outside.
