Freshly washed brick and blue siding twin home in Havertown, PA with a white picket porch rail

Wayne is the heart of the Main Line and home to some of its largest houses. Big stone colonials with deep eaves, long gutter runs, slate and cedar roofs, and hardscape that was expensive when it went in and is worth looking after.

Long eaves mean long gutter runs, and gutter runs streak

A wide Wayne colonial can carry a hundred feet of gutter face at a single level, and oxidation striping across that much white aluminum is the most visible thing on the house from the driveway. It is also the thing a house wash will not touch, because the streaks are oxidized metal rather than anything organic. Brightening is a separate, slower, hand-worked service.

Expensive hardscape deserves a conservative method

Bluestone terraces, cut-stone steps and mortared stone walls are the kind of installation where damage is genuinely expensive to put right. Everything gets tested in a hidden place first, and we will always take the slower, gentler route on stone of that value rather than the fastest one.

Estate stonework and deep porches

The Wayne Estate houses were built of stone, with deep porches and generous trim, and many still stand in the historic districts. The porches and the stone below them need the same care as the rest of the house: a tested pressure for the mortar, and a soft wash for painted wood.

Slate, copper and old glass

Many Wayne homes have slate roofs, copper details and old leaded glass. We keep ladders off slate and work carefully around copper and old windows. Being careful with the expensive details is part of the job here, and it is why we would rather take longer than rush.

Historic districts and careful work

Wayne's historic districts hold some of the finest old houses on the Main Line, and their owners care about keeping original materials intact. That suits the way we work. Painted wood gets a soft wash, stone gets a pressure set for its mortar, and nothing original gets blasted to save time. If a surface looks too fragile to clean safely, we will say so before we start.

Know The Town

Wayne, in brief.

Wayne began as a railroad stop called Cleaver's Landing, later renamed Wayne Station after General Anthony Wayne. The banker J. H. Askin bought 293 acres there and built Louella, an 80-room stone mansion with a large porch, named for his daughters Louisa and Ella. In 1880 the banker A. J. Drexel and the newspaper editor G. W. Childs bought his land and the land around it, and built the Wayne Estate.

Their 1887 brochure described Wayne as a town built by design, provided with water, light and drainage from the start, rather than one that grew up haphazardly. Downtown Wayne, around Lancaster Avenue and Wayne Avenue, became a historic district in 2012, and North Wayne and South Wayne are historic districts too.

The center of Wayne is in Radnor Township, but the community reaches into Tredyffrin and Upper Merion, and the 19087 ZIP code takes in Radnor, Strafford, St. Davids and Chesterbrook. Chanticleer Garden and the Wayne Hotel are two of its best-known landmarks.

Downtown Wayne sits on Lancaster Avenue, the old Lincoln Highway, with Wayne station on the Paoli/Thorndale Line a block north. Radnor, St. Davids and Strafford surround it, and Villanova and Bryn Mawr are a short drive east. Many Wayne properties are large, with long gutter runs, stone walls and old trees, so a visit here is planned as a whole: the order of the work, the water supply and where the equipment will sit. Tell us what matters most to you, and we will start there.

Wayne Questions

Answered for this town specifically.

How much does pressure washing cost in Wayne?
Quotes in Wayne are free and specific to your property: which surfaces, how big they are, how dirty and how easy to reach. You get one clear number within 24 hours, and that is the number you pay. We are fully insured, and we take cash, card or check.
Why are my gutters still black after the house was washed?
Because those streaks are not dirt. They are oxidized aluminum and bonded road film, and house-wash chemistry is built for algae and mildew, so it runs straight past them. They need a brightening gel applied to the gutter face and agitated by hand.
Will you put ladders against my slate or cedar roof?
No. Nothing is leaned against a slate, cedar or tile roof - the damage risk is far too high. Elevations are soft washed from the ground and gutter work is done from a ladder standing clear of the roof surface.
Do you serve St. Davids, Strafford and the rest of the 19087 area?
Yes. We serve Wayne and the Main Line communities around it, including Radnor, St. Davids and Strafford.
How close is your nearest job to Wayne?
Our Havertown jobs are about six miles away. The gutter brightening in our portfolio is the same work a long Wayne gutter run needs.
Can you clean a house in a historic district?
Yes. We clean with low pressure and the right solution, which is gentle on original wood, stone and trim. Cleaning does not change the look of a house, it uncovers it.
How long does a large Wayne house take?
Most are done in a day. A very large house with long gutter runs and a lot of stonework can take longer, and we tell you the expected time with the quote.
Do you serve all of Wayne?
Yes, all of Wayne (19087), including the streets around North Wayne, South Wayne, Louella, St Davids and Lancaster Avenue. If you are just outside it, you are very likely covered too. Check our service areas or ask when you request a quote.
What do Wayne homeowners book most?
Gutter Brightening & Oxidation Removal. Removes the black tiger stripes and chalky oxidation from gutters, downspouts, trim and faded siding, which a house wash alone will not touch. It suits Wayne’s large stone colonials and shingle-style homes, many pre-1930, and it costs least booked with the rest of the property in one visit.
